Terms of Use
Effective date: April 19, 2026
By accessing or using IndieCalc ("the Site"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.
1. Nature of the Service
IndieCalc provides free, interactive tax calculators designed for freelancers, independent contractors, and self-employed individuals. All calculations are performed in your browser and are based on publicly available federal and state tax rates.
2. Not Tax, Legal, or Financial Advice
The Site provides estimates for informational and educational purposes only. IndieCalc is not a licensed tax preparer, CPA, attorney, or financial advisor. The calculators do not account for every possible deduction, credit, exemption, or individual circumstance that may affect your tax liability.
You should not rely on IndieCalc results as a substitute for professional tax advice. Always consult a qualified tax professional before making financial decisions or filing your taxes.
IndieCalc is not affiliated with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or any state or local tax authority.
3. Accuracy and Limitations
We make reasonable efforts to ensure that our calculators reflect current tax rates and rules. However:
- Tax laws change frequently. Calculations may not reflect the most recent legislative changes.
- State tax calculations are simplified and may not account for local taxes, credits, or special rules that apply in your jurisdiction.
- Results are estimates. Your actual tax liability may differ.
- We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any calculation.
4. Your Responsibilities
- You are solely responsible for verifying any results before relying on them.
- You are responsible for filing accurate tax returns with the appropriate authorities.
- You agree not to use the Site for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could damage or impair the Site.
5. Intellectual Property
All content on the Site — including text, design, code, and calculators — is owned by IndieCalc and protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws. You may use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the Site’s content without our written permission.
6. Third-Party Links and Services
The Site may contain links to third-party websites, including affiliate partners. These links are provided for convenience. We do not endorse, control, or assume responsibility for the content or practices of any third-party site. Your use of third-party sites is governed by their own terms and privacy policies.
We may earn commissions from affiliate links. This does not affect the calculations or information presented on the Site.
7. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Site is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
8. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, IndieCalc shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill — arising from your use of or inability to use the Site, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
In no event shall our total liability exceed one hundred dollars ($100).
9. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless IndieCalc and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Site or your violation of these Terms.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Use at any time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the Site shall be resolved in the courts located in Cook County, Illinois.
